Marathon Digital Holdings, a Bitcoin mining company, has launched a matching donations campaign to support Bitcoin Core developers. The announcement was made at the Bitcoin 2023 conference by Brink, a non-profit organization that supports Bitcoin developers through grants, mentorship and education. Marathon will match donations to Brink on a two-for-one basis for the duration of the conference, which ends on May 20. After the conference, Marathon will match donations one-for-one through the end of the year, up to $1 million total. Marathon hopes to advance Brink’s support for the developers who maintain and upgrade Bitcoin’s code by committing to match all third-party donations up to an aggregate of $500,000 until December 31, 2023. According to Mike Schmidt, the executive director of Brink, the organization has currently funded nine independent developers in five different countries. Donations to Brink through its website are eligible for the match.
