LUKSO’s mainnet and standards have been integrated into Unreal Engine’s development framework, according to a recent tweet from LUKSO. This integration allows users to directly interact with universal profiles and flexible non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from games. Universal Profiles in LUKSO are interoperable and represent verified digital identities, giving users control of their online avatars and digital assets. The integration can be accessed through Unreal Engine’s blockchain integration plugin, which enables game developers to incorporate blockchain functionality into their games by communicating with smart contracts programmed using Solidity.
Unreal Engine’s plugin also supports Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible smart contracts, including LUKSO. Additionally, the plugin allows users to mint, transfer, and use NFTs, serving as a “gateway” for exploration. It also offers play-to-earn (P2E) features, enhancing the gaming experience for users.
Despite being EVM-compatible like Solana, LUKSO is being incorporated into Unreal Engine ahead of Solana. Fabian Vogelsteller, co-founder of LUKSO and the author of the ERC-20 standard, which powers many tokens such as UNI and MKR, is credited with shaping Ethereum in its early days. The engine plugin plans to support Solana, OpenSea, and Bitcoin in future updates.
The native token of LUKSO, LYX, has remained stable in the hours following the announcement. However, it has experienced a decline of 43% since its listing on KuCoin in July, similar to the broader cryptocurrency market.
The Unreal Engine integration plugin initially only supported Ethereum but later included zero knowledge rollups, Immutable X, and Optimism to enhance scalability and reduce transaction costs. The plugin also supports the ERC-20 and ERC-1155 standards.
As the integration of LUKSO’s mainnet and standards into Unreal Engine’s development framework takes place, it opens up new possibilities for the gaming industry, providing users with enhanced control over their digital identities and assets. With the planned support for Solana, OpenSea, and Bitcoin, the integration is expected to further expand its capabilities and reach.
